Presto Change-o!

Supporting Employees as They Move In and Out of Your Organization

Your company’s employee needs are constantly evolving. Whether you’re adding a new team member, changing an employee’s responsibilities, or moving them outside of the organization altogether, effective transition support can lead to better performance, higher morale, and a stellar reputation for your company. Career counselor and outplacement consultant Katy Piotrowski, M.Ed., will deliver a fun, insightful presentation on key concepts related to employee career transitions:

  • Peek inside an employee’s mindset when they’re faced with a big change.
Having worked with advancing and laid-off employees for the past 17 years, Katy will provide insight into what works and what doesn’t from the employee’s perspective.  Example: Learn why giving a laid-off worker two-months notice may seem kind but is actually very difficult on everyone involved.
  • Improve your ability to support successful change by gaining insight into the classic phases of transition. Based on the highly successful book, “Transitions” by William Bridges, Endings, the “Neutral Zone”, and New Beginnings will be covered from the perspective of what employees in transition experience—whether it’s taking on a new job, mastering an additional responsibility, or transitioning out of the company. Specific, practical strategies to minimize fear and empower positive change will be covered. Through problem-solving role-plays, activities, and group discussions we will explore in depth how employees in an organization feel during each phase of a transition.
  • Equip your HR toolbox with powerful strategies for supporting employees facing wanted—or unwanted—changes in their careers. Scripts and a checklist for HR professionals to use when coaching employees who are facing a transition, and a resource list of effective, targeted transition-support strategies will be provided.
